Why I feel bad for Ono, how we think the future of Street Fighter 5 will play out, our one gripe with Shang Tsung, SNK cuts lag in half, and more

June 19, 2019

How will the rest of Street Fighter 5's life play out and what might it look like for Capcom to gracefully transition into Street Fighter 6? We talk about it. I'm finding myself feeling kinda bad for Yoshinori Ono these days, we talk about that too. Mortal Kombat 11 is on pace to outsell MKX, which is no small feat. SNK pulls off an impressive comeback with a speedy fix for Samurai Shodown's input lag, we only kind of agree with Dogura's SF5 tier list, we agree even less with Momochi's views on fighting game development.

With Microsoft's Project Scarlett officially revealed, a new piece of the when's Street Fighter 6 puzzle might be in place. Catalyst is tired of dealing with lag when playing Street Fighter online, and has a proposal that would see players begin to forfeit rounds if their connection is too slow. Plus Banjo Kazooie and Dragon Quest's The Hero have been officially revealed as the next two DLC homeruns for Smash Ultimate., and we have this crazy idea that Halo's Master Chief could be one of the next. We bring in both DreamKing and MajinTenshinhan to help with this week's fully loaded episode.

Why Karin is dominant, but not cheap; what made Mortal Kombat 11’s Shang Tsung reveal so good; Samurai Shodown’s 8-frame blunder and more

June 5, 2019

Karin has been winning Street Fighter 5 major tournaments left and right, and a significant portion of the community is calling her cheap, but is she really? Plus Mortal Kombat 11's netcode is perhaps the best we've ever seen in a fighting game ever, Shang Tsung's reveal trailer is an absolute homerun, the Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games tells what the company is looking for when deciding on potential partners, the Japanese Sam Sho demo makes a big WUPS, and we check the mailbag.

Daigo has a controller that lets him throw Sonic Booms really efficiently, and the FGC has no idea what to think about it. Plus we have to wonder if Capcom will be giving us more than just characters for Street Fighter 5 come EVO... another balance patch perhaps? And if they do do a balance patch, they should probably consider nerfing Cammy again and they should DEFINITELY consider nerfing Rashid. Mortal Kombat 11 has a very good showing at Combo Breaker, Combo Breaker has a very good showing at Combo Breaker, Punk is showed the middle finger during his very good showing at Combo Breaker and more.

Street Fighter 5 breaks 3 million in sales, Daigo does not want to see revenge mechanics come back in Street Fighter 6 (which might not be utilizing the Unreal Engine) we're certain Rashid is too good, we're not certain Cammy is too good, Combo Breaker continues to push the envelope, XsK_Samurai is on fire, and more.

Ono takes to Twitter to remind us all that more Street Fighter 5 content is indeed coming. We look to both the past and future to try to get an idea of what said content might be, when it's most likely to come, and how the community will respond given the three year emotional roller coaster that has been Street Fighter 5.

NetherRealm Studios has been under a bit of fire after allegations of harsh and grindy work environments surfaced, and this seems to be something of the norm for game development companies in general here in recent times. Capcom releases their latest IR report and let's just say the path into their future has a giant neon eSports sign above it. We also talk a bit about some backlash from 801 Strider over last week's episode of the podcast, discuss the struggles of content creation as BornFree may be ramping down soon, lay out which characters you should be choosing in MK11 if you want to play a top tier and more on this 50th episode of the EventHubs Podcast.

I got to experience Northwest Majors firsthand. Catalyst and I talk a bit about my experiences, including my brief conversation with 801 Strider, who won the whole event with G! Who is a good character! Who Daigo is now practicing with! We talk about him for a little bit. But also, Mortal Kombat 11 is a week old now, which characters are emerging as seemingly stronger than others, and have those pesky towers been fixed yet? Smash Ultimate becomes the best-selling fighting game of all time, but even Sonic mains are having a hard time finding anything good to say about the latest Sonic movie trailer.

April 24, 2019

We've been playin' us some Mortal Kombat 11 for a good week or so now, we get into the good the bad and the beautifully ugly of the latest and greatest from NetherRealm. Also, the Capcom Pro Tour continues to chug along and Punk continues to make Grand Finals. Is his recent come from behind victory against Daigo enough to say he's the best in the business right now? Plus Hungrybox has a crab thrown at him after his win at Pound. It's funny, but it may be indicative that we're starting down a road that we really don't want to be traversing.
